Blue Christmas

I love putting together theme parties and have lots of fun with others in the past but this past weekend I got to throw a Blue Christmas. We started with blue decorations and threw in some green, silver and gold. We hung big blue, white and silver snowflakes from the ceiling and used all vintage turquoise and gold glasses.

On the menu, including other things were blueberry cream cheese coffee cake, proscuitto with bleu cheese and pears, blue corn chips and home made salsa, and cookies with blue sprinkles. The ones pictured below are little mushroom meringues.

We served Blue Moon beer and Pabst Blue Ribbon and a cocktail called a Blue Moon that tasted like a creamsicle and served wine with blue labels and non-alcoholic drinks that were blue in color including Frostie’s Blue Cream Soda.

There was a big bowl of blue candy!

We asked everyone to wear something blue and we made a playlist heavy on songs with the word blue in the title including “Blue” by Eiffel 65, “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue” by Crystal Gayle, “Blue Moon” by Cowboy Junkies and “Blue Suede Shoes” by Elvis. Of course we had at least 5 versions of “Blue Christmas” sung by Johnny Cash, Ann and Nancy Wilson and and Elvis.

This was a super fun night to photograph and be a part of. Revival is one of the projects organized by A.S.K. Productions in Long Beach. Angie Kiel puts on a variety of fun and classy women’s events in Long Beach on a regular basis. This is the 3rd incarnation of Revival, meant to revitalize the once thriving women’s music scene here in Long Beach.

If last night was an indication of where this is headed, things are looking good. In spite of two injured participants (both KJ and Patsy Grind member had foot injuries) the energy was high last night and the attendance was good.

Veteran Kristi Jo was joined by first time performers, The LBians and Patsy Grind. Here are some photos from the night.

A Murder of Crows

Halloween is always one of the most fun holidays of the year for me – not only do I get to decorate but I get to wear a costume and make fun theme food. I have some surprises that I will blog about after Halloween.

This year I am not throwing my own Halloween party but I am assisting with another. Still, I can’t resist doing a few things around the house to get in the ‘spirit’ of things. Here are some photos from this years decorations. The theme was sort of a glitzy “Murder of Crows.”

Dexter in the Desert

A few months ago, I was hired to do a photo shoot which was then turned into a video invitation for a Dexter themed Halloween party that is being throw at the end of next month.

The video looks amazing and I was going to post it here on my blog or at least a link to it, as I’m not sure that WordPress supports video content but the video features Fujiya & Miyagi’s song ”Uh” and there are copyright issues. We spent a wonderfully fun afternoon capturing the photos. The premise is a Halloween party invitation for a party with a decorative and costume theme of Dexter using tight shots similar to the Dexter opening credits but of a person making jello shots for the upcoming party all to the song that Walter White makes meth to out in the desert for the first time in Season 1 of Breaking Bad.
